By: Greg Weisman. She will become one of the world's greatest heroes: Wonder Woman. But first she is Diana, princess of the Amazons. And her fight is just beginning. By: Leigh Bardugo. Geralt is a Witcher, a man whose magic powers, enhanced by long training and a mysterious elixir, have made him a brilliant fighter and a merciless hunter. Yet he is no ordinary killer: His targets are the multifarious monsters and vile fiends that ravage the land and attack the innocent.

By: Andrzej Sapkowski. They were supposed to tell everyone that he is not a jinx, that all the bad things that happen around him are because he can't control the power inside him, power he doesn't know about.

The people of his village, even his parents, are afraid of him, afraid he is cursed. That he is a dangerous, evil jinx. By: Craig Alanson. Tim and his friends find out the hard way that you shouldn't question the game master, and you shouldn't make fun of his cape. One minute, they're drinking away the dreariness of their lives, escaping into a fantasy game and laughing their asses off.

The next minute, they're in a horse-drawn cart surrounded by soldiers pointing crossbows at them. Tim now has the voice and physique of a prepubescent girl. Dave finds that while he lost a foot or two in height, he somehow acquired a suit of armor and a badass beard. Julian's ears have grown ridiculously long and pointy. And Cooper He also finds that he's carrying a bag with a human head in it - a head that he had chopped off when they were still just playing a game. Shit just got real, and if they want to survive, these four friends are going to have to tap into some baser instincts they didn't even know existed in their fast-food and pizza delivery world.

It's fight, flight, or try to convince the people who are trying to kill them that they don't really exist. If you have a problem with base humor, you will want to pass this book up. I emailed a request for the rest of the series to be put on audio.

I don't think the audio version exists but there are a number of books. Maybe if I get enough votes here, audible will raise an eyebrow at how many people like it. I thought this book was very entertaining. Shakespeare it was not, but there was a nice coherent story with good character development. I mean it references character sheets, charisma, random encounters, and rolling a 1, so there you go.

It is not a 'gritty' book. There is much joking and bumbling along with the action. It goes pretty much how you would expect it to go if a bunch of casual gamers had to actually become their characters. Some of the content was kinda stereotypical, but I still think it was handled in a funny way. I enjoyed it. If you like gaming and don't take yourself too seriously, I think you will enjoy it too.

The narrator was awesome. He did great with the different voices and characters and their expression. I wanted to love this story.

After devouring the four Alter World novels by D. Rus and becoming a true fan of the lit-MMORPG genre, I went right into this novel with high expectations and a readiness to enjoy a good story. What I got was fart jokes and characters that did not seem concerned at all that they were somehow transported into a DnD world.

The premise of this book is fantastic. Where my review goes off track is how the stoner geniuses that are our characters in this story somehow hijacked the excellent writing and dropped the entire IQ of the narrative and storyline by points. Again, the writing is well done and well delivered.

Honestly, there's a good idea for a story here - but you wouldn't know it, because it's suspended within a barrage of overly descriptive jokes about bodily fluids and too many instances of the word "gay" as a pejorative.

Now, I am normally not one to decry crass humor - if done well, it can be great! It had potential, but they squandered it by making many of their characters so unlikeable that I finished this book and thought, "who cares? I enjoyed this book. I kept going back to it and finished it in a few days. That said, this has to be the dumbest group of people to ever get stuck in an alternate universe.

They also swear, a lot. Nearly every other sentence has the f-word. If you can forgive those two things it's an entertaining book. Disclaimer: I have only gotten a few chapters in so far. I enjoy the premise and I like the idea. I love DND. One problem I have is that it is based of an older version of DND where the rules are slightly different, so I will need some time to adjust. The voice actor pains me. Along with the writing format.

The characters are nearly inseparable from each other. Everything is fast paced and I cant tell who is talking or saying what. I have to pause the book every 15 seconds to figure out what exactly is going on. The voice actor is trying but is speaking too fast and his voices aren't completely separate.

The writing has "He said, she said, they said" type of writing. Names are thrown out and around like candy on Haloween when you visit your grandparents. I enjoy the comedic aspect, but it is going to fast for me to enjoy right now. I will edit this when I finish the book. Edit: It turned out that this book is mainly an introduction to the characters and the game mechanics.

There were quite a few laughs once you allow yourself. I will get the next book at a later date and see if it gets better now that the formalities are out of the way. I do not like how short the books are. Each book is expensive for the amount of content. It seems like the creators are milking it by splitting the books more than necessary. What did you love best about Critical Failures?

It was different, engaging, and the characters were hysterically funny. What was one of the most memorable moments of Critical Failures? The horse in the jail. Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry? Constantly laugh-out-loud. No crying. It was delightful. Any additional comments? I'm not now, nor even have been, a teenaged boy. I am a 60 yr old female. I have never played Dungeons and Dragons, had only a vague idea what was involved in that game. This book was a great introduction to that world, especially as one character was being introduced to it himself, and the story was fun, funny and a great listen with an excellent narrator.

Top I was listening to the book while working on the bench in the lab and I had to laugh out loud. People thought I am crazy and I actually had to stop listening for a while to get myself under control.

The characters are carbon copies of my old RPG group from 20 years ago. I would tell you why but I don't want to spoil the moment. How does this one compare? Incredible range of voices that are never annoying. I liked it. Played on a car trip with the fam older kids. Lots of cursing, and hilarious. Be prepared for a barrage of F-bombs. I picked this book up on a whim, despite mixed reviews, and now that it's over I don't know how to feel about it. The story itself is intriguing, but it's held back by repetitive writing.

A lot of the book is characters repeating information to each other, often having the same conversation with different people. While this may be on the realistic side, as introductions will need to be made over and over as new people meet established misfits, it can be grating. This is not helped by our reader, who is trying to make unique voices for each character, but often settles for an agitated whisper for most of them.

The worst of these offenders is the only female character, all her lines are delivered the same way: agitated whisper, whether she's screaming or making polite conversation. The book is a comedy, and it's really hit or miss. There's an overabundance of your mom jokes, and crude humor about bodily functions. Occasionally, the bodily functions humor furthers the story and I honestly commend the writer for that. Not to mention, outside of the reliance on your mom jokes, there are some genuinely funny lines and situations.

I laughed a few times out loud listening to this, I would be lying to say I disliked it as a whole. But that doesn't mean I really liked it either. I do like the general story though, and I want to see how it plays out. I will be purchasing the next book, but I realize this story won't be for everyone.

There's something enchanting about seeing the rules of pen and paper applied to real life, and it's the progression of these characters levels and their level of character that I want to see more of. The humor consisted mostly of "your mom" jokes and profanity. Almost nothing happens in the story and its mostly just the characters being confused and angry with each other. Propper laugh out loud stuff. Need the other books in the series Come on audible get them. I came here from Authors and Dragons.

Robert Bevan creates an interesting view into a role-playing game where the characters are put into the game. The characters aren't afraid to be dicks, are the type of players who want to have a relaxed session and are forced into a serious game of life and death, and react as most people might: by panic and threats to a higher power.

An enjoyable read, the narrator does a good variety of voices, though it feels a bit unfinished towards the end But that's what sequels are for! I will be getting the next issue in the series, of course, as I want to find out more about how the weird world works, what's in store and if a freezer can be opened by a vindictive weirdy-beard. I enjoyed this but feels like the first half of a book.

Hopefully the second will push the story forward at a more satisfying pace. Overall though I'd recommend it. Effing classic. The voices he gives to these characters absolutely makes this piece. Some of the lines could be in danger of falling flat with a bad narrator, but Jonathan absolutely kills delivery on every joke in the book. If you're into gaming culture, you will be cracking up the entire time; guaranteed. Dungeons and Dickheads. I listened to the whole thing in about two days.

The comedy in this book is astounding. The characters are incredibly vibrant and absolutely hilarious. I recommend it to everyone in my party. I wasn't expecting much from the first book since it was all explanations and exposition. This book had me reeling with laughter from Cooper's many actions and stumbles. The voice acting was phenomenal and spot on, the speed just right for the comedy.

Chapter 21 Shown as Chapter 22 on audible , nearly had me fall off my desk chair in a fit of uncontrollable laughter. For that chapter alone this book is worth the money. My main hangups are with how short all the books are and how expensive they are for their length. It hurts me to use a credit on such a short book, but the normal price is too high.

The other bad thing is how annoying Katherine is. I cant stand her as a character, but she completely fills the Bratty sister role that does whatever she can to piss you off, including the reader. Despite these drawbacks, this book is worth the money. Comedy shows, movies, and standups rarely get me in a mood like this book.

I highly recommend this book for everyone. It is unfortunate but you should get the first book so you understand the situation, otherwise I would appreciate this as a stand alone novel. I wished I could share this laughter with someone, so I hope you can enjoy this as much as I did. I have to know what happens next. Audible needs to put a rush on this project!! I really shouldn't have put off writing this a year. Witch is saying a lot because I'm not a big reader I tend to put myself to sleep when I read.

The story is hysterical and the narrator plays it up perfectly. Any of the D6 books. I can't get enough of them. It's also similar to NPCs, another great comedy. The voices are amazing and distinctive. Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not much happened here except the constant poop, sex, and fart jokes. Not that it was bad, there just wasn't much story and the end just happened so fast, and leads right into the next book. The first book was more of a story with all the crude humor and the D6 collection of shorts was better than this as well.

I suspect that over the long haul I will enjoy the short stories more than the novels, much like a comedy series is more-often better than a movie made from that series. That said, I bought the next book and started it up right away. Just like the previous book, really well read, great characters, great plot! I highly recommend this series! Great follow up from the last book. Would recommend to friends, hope there's another book. If you bought the 2nd book having enjoyed the first, you'll know what you are getring with the sequal and wont be disappointed.

Yes its juvenile, yes it can be offensive, yes the story is basic but it is definitely, repeatedly laugh out loud funny. Laughter is an antidote against the serious issues of the world right now. If youve been a teenage roleplayer then you'll identify with the situational fun and banter these characters have, and the solutions they come up with.

The narration is top notch and there's some clever plot devices and twists that show the author isn't as daft as the characters would lead you to believe. Best uses of Mount spell ever. Even better than the first book. The story is getting better and better. The Narrator really makes the books comes to life. Within the self-imposed limits of the genre the narrative is funny and clever.

Yes, it's mostly toilet humour, but it works. A good set of characters and the story comes together well. Better than the first book in the series. Close to as good as the first book, can't wait to see what happens next.

Jonathan Sleep really bring this story alive. Extra production additions were well worth it. The story is great, though I don't like toilet humour and the half-orc's low-charisma induced bodily functions put me off.

If it wasn't for being constantly assaulted with farts and poop, I would have given this all 5 stars. I was typically unsure of this installment of the series.

I hate vampires as a rule, but as this made me laugh it becomes the exception to the rule. Add to Cart failed. Please try again later. Add to Wish List failed. Remove from wishlist failed.
