Garry's Mod 13 introduced a massive number of changes, most of which render addons created for Garry's Mod 12 incompatible with Please make sure your addon is up to date. You should report these errors to the developer of the addon, along with any information you can provide to help recreate the errors.
This will help the developer fix the errors. Do not ask developers of Garry's Mod to fix errors with addons, as they did not create said addons and therefore have no power over fixing them. I would say at the minimum, you will need that game and you might as well get Team Fortress 2 since it's free. A complete list of Source games can be found here. GMod is more fun with having more stuff at your disposal. A basic installation with no other resources lacks of almost everything when it comes to maps, props, npcs, etc.
Note that most maps do not use this method, as it increases file size and possibly decrease optimization of the map, making it run slower.
